Breckenridge is the seat of Summit County and home to 5000 full-time residents along with thousands of part-time residents. A well-oiled management team and a dash of creativity makes this community sizzle.

Breckenridge carries on the tradition of excellence in both work and play by sponsoring a full calendar of events and activities. During the winter, newcomers can expect ski and snowboard competitions such as the Winter Dew Tour. You will find events ranging from the International Sculpture Championships to the Backcountry Film Fest.

Summertime brings the Breckenridge Music Festival with concerts several nights a week held in Riverwalk Center which is near Blue River. Arts and craft fairs, cookoffs, parades and celebrations attract visitors and residents alike.

Recreation

Imagine getting out on the extensive trails for mountain biking, road biking, and hiking. These trail systems extend from the White River National Forest around Breckenridge to Frisco and around Lake Dillon. In Breckenridge at the base of Peak 8, it is fun to take the BreckConnect Gondola to the fun Park for zip lining, alpine sliding, Jeep tours, and scenic rides.

On top of that, you might get in some high-altitude golf at the 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course (and Nordic skiing in the winter). Or, walk down to the Blue River for some fishing.

Breckenridge History to Explore

Find out about the discovery of gold in 1859 and the transformation of an old mining camp into a year-round resort. Visit quaint museums for stories of early settlers: Barney Ford House Museum, Edwin Carter Discovery Center, Breckenridge Welcome Center, Brick House Museum, and Alice Milne House Museum. And there are more stories at the railroad, sawmill, and fire station museums. Of course, you will want to find out how the ski resort started in 1961. Trek over to the Summit Ski Museum.
